Challenging weather was not enough to keep the young grapplers off the mats this weekend, traveling to Wharton for our 2nd jamboree of the season.

This weekend was no different than last – the crew showing great team spirit, determination, and trust in our fundamentals.

Noteworthy performance highlights:

  • Magnus Beslow reminds us that when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. Magnus, whose arrival was delayed (no fault of his own!), proceeded to get right on the mat and wrestle 4 consecutive matches. Ready to go, any time, any place! As always, Magnus keeps a smile on his face the whole time he’s wrestling, working in and out of positions fluidly. Getting better and having fun.
  • Isaiah Ramirez had a breakout day. Taking on one of the most talented wrestlers at the event, Isaiah fought tooth-and-nail to stay off his back, making in-match adjustments to ‘look away from the half’. Isaiah kept the tenacious opponent of his legs for the ENTIRE 2nd period, using perfect stance and head position. Well done, Isaiah!
  • Cameron Mariano would’ve won the Determination Award, if there was one. Coming off a few tough losses last weekend, Cameron set an event record, wrestling 5 total matches (reminder: these events are only like 60 minutes….incredible). Taking advantage of every opportunity to improve!
  • Bridger Donohue dipped his toes in the competition waters and clearly liked the temperature, wrestling ’til the very final minutes of the event. Bridger proved that he’s listening closely in practice, escaping the bottom position with textbook technique.
  • New teammember George Drinkwater put on a display of quickness and athleticism for the fans, constantly moving throughout his matches, keeping his opponents on their toes. It’s going to be exciting to watch George, as he adds more wrestling technique to his arsenal.
  • Danny Whitehead, wrestling his first career matches, was reminiscent of a old cobbler hand-making a pair of fine Italian loafers. Focused, precise, masterful with his tools. Even more impressive was Danny’s sportsmanship, once pausing mid-match to give his opponent a much-needed tip to escape an airtight wrist & half. A coach in the making.

A fun morning was had by all coaches, parents, and wrestlers.
